3t in Singapore 2024
Singapore is a young nation about the size of Bornholm, but in record time, it has grown into an international trade hub. On this trip, 3.t has encountered the world-famous multicultural society that is home to Singapore's population of approximately 5.5 million inhabitants. They have navigated the island amidst the bustle of the city, surrounded by the sounds of its four official languages: English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil. They followed the aromas to the local communities, exploring the culinary scene of Chinatown, Arab Street District, and Little India. Afterwards, they made their way to the waterfront, witnessing the light shows on the mechanical trees at Gardens by the Bay.
At the partner school, the class will soon be welcomed by the lovely Singaporean students for a homestay, followed by a debate at the school. Here, 3.t will listen to debates from the students' perspective on the government's policies and regulations concerning, for example, surveillance and ethnic integration. The class is on a journey through Singapore's history, but at the same time, they are gaining insight into a futuristic city like this, where lush nature and surveillance cameras can be found on every street corner. The various local communities contribute to a deeper understanding of how one is socialized into a national identity. This is a trip, and tropical weather, that the class will not soon forget.
